How to Transfer My Domain Registration Away from Squarespace
Before attempting to transfer a domain away from Squarespace, you must complete the following steps.
- There is a 60 day period after registering a domain name during which you will be unable to transfer domain registration. This is not a Summit Marketing specific rule, but rather a rule implemented by ICANN, the organization that governs domain registrations. - When the Registrant WHOIS email info on a domain is updated an email is sent to both the existing email and the new email address for the Registrant contact. This is due to ICANN's new Change of Registrant Policy.
Step 1 - Update Contact Information For Domain In Squarespace
The contact information for your domain needs to be up-to-date so that the Transfer/EPP/Authorization Code can be emailed to you. Update your contact information in your Squarespace account and review for any errors.
Step 2 - Unlock the domain
- In the Home Menu, click Settings, and then click Domains. You can also press the ?key while any panel is open and search domains.
- Click the domain you want to transfer.
- Scroll down and uncheck Lock Domain. and uncheck Whois Privacy.
Step 3 - Get transfer key
The Get Transfer Key button will appear at the bottom of the panel after unlocking the domain.
Click Get Transfer Key and copy the transfer key that appears. You'll provide this code to us during the check out process to authorize the transfer. This also known as an “EPP code” or "authorization code."
Step 4 - Submit Domain Name Transfer Request To Summit Marketing
Once all of the above steps have been completed, you should be ready to transfer your domain name to Summit Marketing.
- Go to the Summit Marketing domain transfer form at https://dashboard.summitmarketingonline.com/cart.php?a=add&domain=transfer
- Enter your domain name in the Domain Name field, and enter the EPP/Authorization Code you obtained from your current registrar.
If your domain name extension ends in something other than .com, .net, .org, .info or .biz, you will not be able to use the transfer form to process your request. You will need to contact our Billing department via a Support Ticket or Live Chat with your domain name and authorization code so we can arrange payment.

- Click Add To Cart.
- Review the steps on the page. Verify the EPP/Authorization code is entered correctly. Add Web Hosting if you would like to take advantage of our web hosting services for this domain. Add any other available add-ons if you wish.
- Click Continue.
- Enter any applicable promo codes if you have one.
- Click Checkout.
- Login f you already are registered with Summit Marketing or Complete New Signup.
- Enter your credit card information and click Complete Order.
Step 5 - Approve/Confirm the transfer of the Domain Name to Summit Marketing
After completing the steps above within a few hours, you should receive an email from your provider (via a @registrarmail.net email address) confirming the transfer is in progress. The email includes a link, which may look like it's only for cancelling, that you can use to confirm the transfer.
If you click the link and confirm, the transfer will complete as soon as the provider accepts it. If you don't click the link, the transfer will complete within five - seven business days.
You will receive an email from Summit Marketing once the transfer is complete. If you have not heard from Summit Marketing after seven (7) days, you may contact us to inquire about your transfer status.
